Recent Events

Sunday, September 16, 2007; Newtown Creek Cruise

Our second cruise this year into this hidden NYC waterway. Over 120 people aboard M/V Half Moon enjoyed an incredibly interesting tour in perfect fall weather.

Sunday, September 23, 2007; Inwood Hill Park

This was a specialized tour for pro and amateur photographers. Digital as well as film cameras were well represented. We spent time at selected scenic locations. There was no hurry, as some of the photographers were utilizing large format view cameras.

Inwood Hill Park tour ~ Sunday, April 9, 2006

This 3 hour tour began at 10:30 A.M.
The group assembled at the NW corner of Broadway at Dyckman Street.

Most New Yorkers have never visited the northern tip of Manhattan Island.

The best views of this scenic area are obtained before the spring foliage begins to grow.

Our walk headed west to the Hudson River, north to Dyckman Fields for the view of the Hudson; up into the wooded trails of Inwood Hill Park; down to the lagoon area; a visit to the nature center; back to Broadway and over to the Broadway Bridge for Harlem River views, and then down Broadway to various subway connections for the ride home.

Restroom facilities were available in city parks along the route and the nature center. Snacks and drinks were available at deli's and other stores.

Three Parks Manhattan Walk/Picnic ~ August 7, 2005

J. Hood Wright Park
Bennett Park
Ft Washington Park

Our group met at 10:30 A.M. at West 177th Street and Ft Washington Avenue, Manhattan, Northwest Corner.

We got high in Manhattan!

You can't get any higher than Bennett Park, which occupies the highest point of land in Manhattan, 265.05 feet above sea level.

Our tour visited J Hood Wright Park at Ft. Washington Avenue and 173rd Street. There are interesting bedrock outcrops and a great view of the George Washington Bridge.

Next we walked north to Bennett Park at 183rd Street. This was the site of Ft. Washington.

It was an easy walk down W181 Street to Riverside Drive. There were incredible vistas of the bridge and Hudson River before we headed down the paths into Ft. Washington Park.

The Little Red Lighthouse came into view under the bridge.

After viewing the lighthouse we found a comfortable area in the park to enjoy our picnic lunches.
